coconut shell cave?

I want to make a cave for my tank using a coconut shell. Aside from cleaning it out and smoothing out some of the fibers, I was going to boil it for a while, probably more than once. Is there anything else I should do to it? It's going into a 10 gallon community tank, and a java fern will be anchored to it.

That sounds just fine to me.
The only differnece between that and what I do (I have half a dozen coconut caves) is I don't boil, and I let them dry after soaking.
