Co2 Question For A New 97g Set Up

The airstone is throwing the readings off, dont run the airstone, this is probably why you are having difficulty getting proper readings. Turn the airstone off and do the readings from the tank again tomorrow. Not sure if the high temperature has a bearing also albeit only minor, but definatly turn the airstone off.

Well I had the airstone turned off all day today, have been watching them closely as Ive been at home and they have been fine. Up until about 30 mins ago that is!! Two or three discus then started to gasp at the top and ive just noticed a cardinal also at the top. Took some readings of the tank. PH 6.8 (Sos thats dropped) KH 70 mg/l (ppm). That now gives me 33ppm CO2!!???

Also just took readings readings of the HMA water that has been standing in a jug for 24 hrs.

Readings when I put the water in the jug PH 7.4 KH 150 mg/l (ppm) TDS 290

Readings after 24 hrs PH 7.4 KH 170 MG/L (ppm) TDS 297 so that gives me 20 ppm CO2!!!???

What is going on???

Ive had to turn the airstone back on as I dont want to risk losing any of the fish due to a shortage of O2.

HELP, ANYONE!!

Zig your opinions would be greatly appreciated again.

Just to add quickly that the airstone has been running now for about 20 minutes and the fish seem to have stopped gasing. The only reason they would be gasping is de to excess CO2 in the water right??

Whats going on??

Im sorry mate im all out of ideas.

A Ph of 6.8 and a KH of 70 = 19ppm co2 btw not 33ppm, also a reading of Ph 7.4 and a KH of 170ppm = 11ppm CO2 not 20ppm, so you are interpreting the readings wrong.

Is this tank cycled?

Hmmm according to Chucks calculator & chart that I downloaded a PH of 6.8 and KH of 70 = 33ppm???

Maybe its out of date?????? wrong??? no idea!!??

This is a new tank but in affect all that happended was a large water change as 50 % of the water was put back into the tank and the filter and fish were put into a large container whilst I did the change!!

What would be your plan of action??

hmmmm............ever consider you might be wrong?

So i take it this tank isnt cycled?

Edit: ok i see what you are doing now, you are giving me a reading of 70ppm instead of 7 degrees which are totally different readings

Anyway the fish may be stressed because the tank is not cycled.

Im sorry mate i dont know what else to say or suggest, but if the tank is not cycled having Discus in the tank is probably not a good idea.

Thank god for that I thought I was going mad!!

Anyways its a new tank but same filter, 50% same water, 50% new water, same substrate (with added sand), same plants.
I cant see how the tank wouldnt be cycled?
