Been reading the articles about CO2, particularly the DIY CO2 kit (which is surely worth stickying btw?). I have just invested in some T5 lighting for my Trigon 190L (which doesnt seem to be suited to planting tbh as it doesnt allow a nice even spread of lighting). Even with the T5 lights I will just be under 1WPG which I know isnt enough for hi tech by a long stretch. (btw if you have a trigon 190 and have managed to get a good WPG without removing the hood and using MH then I would be interested to see how this was achieved).

My question is would there be any benefit to my plants by me rigging up a DIY CO2 kit? Even if its only a small benefit? The DIY kit means the cost is negligible and I don't mind using up a few hours putting the kit together, but obviously its pointless if it won't have even the smallest effect.

Thanks in advance!

My lowest lighted tank had 1.4WPG and used CO2 injection with great benefit. The plants grow faster and the growth is more lush than without. So, I would recommend a DIY kit even for some of the lowest light tanks if you're willing to take the time to make one. Why not?

I'm really not familiar with the Trigon 190L, not from the UK, but I imagine it has a different shape. I've got a 36g bowfront that was nearly impossible to find good even lighting for. I ended up using Power compacts and can go up to 3.6WPG if I choose to, but I run only one light and hover around 1.8WPG, which is better for me.

llj :)

Yep the trigon is a bow fronted corner tank so I guess you have had the same issue! I have thought about trying to fit a compact T5 unit in the back part of the tank (making a 't' shape with the lights) but I have to work out the sizes and how much additional support might be required to do this.

Anyway I have been galvanised into CO2 action and will shortly be raiding Tesco for bottles!
