One of my two clownfish likes to sleep at the top of the tank laying on its side as if dead. When the lights come on he is out and about. Is this normal?
Clowns will sometimes sleep near the surface on their side as it gives them a clear view of any danger that may attack them while they are resting. They will also lie flat against rocks or glass for the same reason.
My perc and clarkii both used to do that, but after my clarkii was in a QT for 7 weeks with "his" goby, he started laying on the sand leaned against him in their rock. It was so dang cute! But now that they are in the bigger tank, the goby found a dugout that the clown can't fit under, [guess he didnt like all that attention] so now the clown digs his own hole to sleep in. Which I end up burying up again every day in hopes that he will find a new spot [prolly not thoght, he's stubborn] because he digs out the sand from under the rock holding up one of my gorgonians that is very strategically placed for the right amount of flow. What a pain!
i dont know.do you hav another clown fish.if so keep an eye out and see if the same thing happens.if not something is wrong.if so its fine.im not all sure about this.i based wat i wrote above on common sense.

oh yes, clowns definitely do some weird things i wouldn't worry about it. my clown has been doing weird stuff like that the entire year+ that i've had her.
I have a pair of Clarkiis in the nano.. They sleep on their sides against the glass on the bottom of the tank. I have a pair of Percs in the 220 reef and they sleep on the surface on their sides against the glass. This is basic common behaviour for a clown. The only time i have seen them act differntly to this is when they have taken a host, they then tend to stay in the host overnight.
