Imo, they eat very minimal or when there's lack of other food in the tank.

From my experience 2 clown plecos can clean algae from a 29 gallon in 2 days. ( adult speciemens)

They eat algae like most common plec species, but wont solve an algae issue so its almost irrelevant.

BN's are more vigorous at algae eating, but there is no fish you can add to solve an algae problem, because no matter what fish you get, a different species of algae will eventually grow that nothing likes o eat,

You have to tackle the root causes if it bothers you.

I agree with three-fingers.

Clown plecos are omnivore. They eat algae but they won't clean your tank.
They are a Panaque specie and they will need wood in their diet.

Don't buy a plec to eat algae - buy a plec because you like it and remove algae with a scraper!
