Ok another day another plec idea. BN's will grow slightly larger that I can house. And bulldog plecs need cool water 20 - 25 or something. So I'm now looking at clown plecs instead they like warm water (26-28) and will grow to barely 10cm. Anyone kept these and if so what did you think of them?

Cheers

they stay very small but they dont hide as much as most plecs mine likes to just layabout in full site, and they are very placid

I'm afraid I have to disagree slightly with mrbudgie! I've had a clown plec for nearly 14 years now, and we honestly hardly ever see it; apart from when I move his bogwood to hoover under it. He (I say 'he', it could be a girl for all I know!) is a really cute fish, and certainly very placid, but it is terribly shy. He lives in a tank right next to my son's computer desk and he says he only sees him out once every month or two if he's lucky!

Honestly, I'd go with the BN instead, if it's going in the 30 gallon in your sig it'll be fine.

go's to show how different fish are to each other,
shame I have only got the one as if I had more I would know if its a personality thing or not lol

but bristlenose are far more active and dirty gits they breed any were so be careful as mine went through a time of breeding when there wasnt even any good hidy holes.

I also have a clown he/she has been in my tank for around 8 years he is very shy.
I didnt know he was in the tank until I was draining the tank for a major clean and found him flopping in the rocks as the water level went down.
he is getting better as he will come out to eat during the day but if I move it is back to the wood..

I have had a clown pleco for about 6 mounths and i verry rearly see it. i know where it hides and i can only really see it if i move the root he hides under .

I've had clowns for a few years now and only ever see them if I take all the wood/caves etc out of the aquarium! My bn's however are always out and about and therefore so much more interesting. I have long fin bns and they are gorgeous!

i have 4 clowns in a 4ft tank with breeding bristlenose plecs and they are all out all the time. It depends why you want a plec, clowns don't touch algae and need bogwood to rasp bn plecs love algae

My four clowns are also in with breeding bn's :)

Just wanted to add that you also need bogwood for the bn's,- not just clowns :)
