Well a few days ago I added my first fish to my 24g nano. The plan was to give him marine flake for the first little while, then once I went back to get my next fish a few days later, I would get some different food, so I could alternate foods. Anyways, my clown has been trying to nibble at the occasional piece of debris that passes him by, but I can't get him to eat. I've tried a marine flake and a slow sinking pellet food for him and he just takes a nip at each then seems to reject them. Ideas?

well clown fish are odd so if he acts odd dont be alarmed, what type of clown is it, can you giv me tank stats, sometimes True percula clown fish will not eat, my true perc didnt eat for 7 full days, i worried but just kept feeding him and eventually he came around after he grew hungry, they can be difficult to feed if they are form the ocean, but just keep trying, he coudl be sick but i doubt it, but the type can only determine that, most other clown fish dont usually have problems eating, what are you feeding him, otu of flakes, bryne shrim is usually the best, they wont eat any omnivore food hopefully you arent trying to feed him that lol :) good luck.

o also, they can b picky lil buggers so if they dnt eat and you get too worried keep trying different types of food, it might only want live-frozen food, if so you might get frozen bryne shrimp, and ween him into flakes... but if im reading this correctly you say your gettign afish in a few days? you need to wait a month to add each fish at least! if you add too many fish at once it will easily overwhelm your tank and any number of things could happen.

1-2 is fine but any more and thats pushing it

My clowns were picky little snots when I first got them. The ONLY thing they would eat for a month was sinking pellets (what they were fed at the LFS). Now they eat anything I put in the tank of meaty origins. Pellets, mysis, brine, flake, bloodworms, etc... Be patient with them and try different foods till you find one they like. Then ween it off that onto something else.

Thanks for the advice, sorry I forgot to mention the kind of clown, its a false perc, I believe its tank raised to. Maybe I'll try some brine shrimp next.

Also about adding the two fish, I had planned on adding a small firefish about a week after getting the clown. Would that be okay to do? I'm going to wait until I can get my clown to eat anyways, which may a be little while longer.

That would prolly be OK. Make sure you stay on top of your testing to make sure you dont overload your bio capacity.

i feed my tank on new era marine flake and i slap in some cyclopese every few days for the corals etc.

heh my clowns will eat ANYTHING i saw some of them eat a moth that landed in the tank after getting to close to my halide lol.

DG

thats funy lol, a moth to me seems like it would tatse dusty or something since it has that odd powder layer on em, hmm o well, ya i just wanted to make sure you werent adding a big fish second, because soem people get mated pairs of clowns and smaller fish and thats usually fine, but if you were getting a big fish liek a lion fish or something, then ide say you can't :) good luck, im sure he will shoe more interest once he grows hungry

Good news guys, my clown finally ate some pellet food, but I was at my LFS and decided to get some cyclopeeze granules to try out, and boy did the clown like it. I fed him 1 little pellet thing of food a few times today, and now whenever he sees my thumb and finger dip into the water he swims up and I release the food and he quickly munches it up.
