haven't seen it but I'm guessing the it comes with a yellowish bulb and a purpleish bulb?
Also does it have reflectors? as these will definitely have a big impact on the brightness

an option would be to add some floating plants which would obviously reduce the amount of light,
this could be reduced bit by bit in the future so they get used to the increasing light output

yup, yellowish tube and purplish one, but no reflectors

and im one step ahead, iv recently put in some floating riccia moss...stuff

they are coming out more and they all seem fine

as soon as i logged off, and turned off the aquarium lights, the clowns came out?

is it common for them to suddenly turn nocturnal?

My clown loaches are around two yrs old and only come out at night. The sit in their tunnels by day, come out for food, sit in their tunnels the rest of the day. They love comming out at night when the tank it quieter. I tend to have a lamp on near the tank and thats when they come out. Its not out of the ordinary. if they arent eating and continually hiding, thats when there is an issue. If you want them to come out during the day maybe adjust your lighting so its not full light during the day...

Like my 3 plecos...they love the nightlife, the love to boogie...

They may just be taking a while to settle into their new home aswell :) Just watch those nitrite and nitrate levels.
