well today been to garden centre to look around and didnt get clown loaches after all , but got Cory fishs as they scavenge bottam too purchase 3 so good addition and good size too nothing worry about

Actually they really stay around 8 inches, 12 is hard when in a tank

There are several people on here that have clowns well into double figures.

and also a heck of a lot of people that never see them this size,

To claire and pollock, like ive said before, i know of a lady that has just solely clowns and has had them years, longer than she can care to remember and none of them are the humongous size people say they are, she has a huge school of them in a 400 litre(UK) and also about 6 in a 240 litre(UK) and has been like this like i said for a long long while.

Like ive said before each living creature will be different even from the same species, now cmon Net Nannies stop jumping down peeps throats. WE CANT ALL BE PERFECT, IT MUST BE SO GREAT TO BE I ASSUME :/ :) :p

Good idea L & P, you know one person who keeps clowns and they haven't reached full size. Therefore we shouldn't warn people of the possible growth of these fish (which in most cases die before reaching full age) because you know 1 person who hasn't managed it.

Best to advise someone based on the max size of the fish, rather than cram the fish in and pray they don't get too big.

The 6 in the 240 litre will be either young, or stunted most likely.

well i saw some same size as an adult little finger and little bit smaller as only baby so am gutted as love the colour of clown loaches too so on the bright side am happy with cory loaches :)

What i want to know is what on earth a tiger shark is doing in the tank? Didnt anyone warn you these are marine predators that grow to several meters in length?

No seriously i have never heard of a freshwater fish called a tiger shark, do you have the scientific name or a picture of this fish as i am intrigued as to what it really is.

i know Tiger Shark grow at good lengh cfc and i only have 2 and they are about same size as your middle finger ( just giving u the idea of how big) not givin u the middle finger :D and both is doing good thank :)

Yes but what are they? If stores are starting to call something a "tiger shark" it would be handy if we knew what they are before we start getting questions on them and no one knows what they are talking about.

not young or stunted pal, this woman has been keeping fish for longer than i have graced this beautiful planet and depending on your age probably longer than you have too, not saying the clowns are this old but theyre neither of your 2 ASSUMPTIONS, and for the recordshe may be the only person i know with this amazing statistic but it is not the case with herself.

Cheers though ill take your thoughts onboard, when im bored sometime ;)

How do you know a fish isn't stunted, pal? Did you put a babel fish in your ear and ask it?

Just because someone has kept fish a long time does not mean they're right. There's plenty of people who have kept fish for 30 years who still think an undergravel filter is fine for a marine tank. But they are far from right.

But as I said. never mind the wealth of information and experience on the web, you know 1 person who claims to know others who say clowns rarely get past 6-8". So lets all agree with that and all stop researching now and hail you as the master of all clown loach knowledge.

As an aside, I recall reading a science paper stating that some clowns take 20 years to reach full length, before going on to live to 80. That doesn't sound to me like a fish that grows to 6" in 5 years and then stops.
