Clown Loaches Clicks

Hmm, if we're starting this I'll join in ... my boyfriends mothers sister is from wales!! ;)

I love the sound clown loaches make, and I fully understand why it scared you! :p You'd never expect a fish like them to make so much noise!

The spiny things though Wuv, do they all have it? ... I can honestly say I've never seen them before on any clown loaches around here!

The clicking noise is an extremely powerful super-suck!!! they use this to extract the juicy bits from snail shells which correct me if I am wrong is one of their main food sources in the wild. If you put some in you may get to see them do it, I have only seen them do it on empty ones they have already eaten, I suppose you would have to sit up all night to catch them doing it.

PS be careful adding snails to your tank.

Mark.

Mine did it too, but mainly when they got the algae wafers....which wasn't for them but the two plecos.

Still though EVERYONE would be in a frenzy for them so I'd wind up dropping like 4 in there at a time so the plecos would at least get a chance at their dinner!

Mine freaked me out when I first heard them. It sounded just like cracking glass or something was kinda grinding against it like with sand. Very scary for a fish tank!

On the Welsh note I have a Welsh uncle (married in) who is rather good fun

On the clicky loaches my two make such a racket when they attack the snails :D harsh but ever so funny hence I dont wash plants when I put them in

I've been to whales.... does that count??? lol. I stayed in a swanky hotel/castle thing for 3 days on a tour around england/wales. Might have been in cardiff. I'll have to check my travel itinerary.

Those spiny things are cool. They look like they could do some damage!

Yuppers, they all have them. it shocked me the first time I ever saw that pic. If you look closely under their eyes you can actually see them when they're lying down (the spines)
(by the way, this topic is over a year old, what a bump!!)

First time I heard the clicking, I though a fish was tapping a rock against the glass! It was so loud!

I found out about the spines the hard way with a punctured finger when handling a clown once. It drew blood and hurt like a wasp sting.
