Hi,

I've recently got some clown loaches, and I read somewhere that they sometimes make a clicking sound.

Well, I've spend the past 2 weeks (pretty much since I got the clown loaches) jumping up at random intervals and looking all around my tank, to work out where the drip that I just heard came from.

Whilst lying in bed this morning, it suddenly dawned on me! Could it be (and I hope that the answer is yes) that this dripping sound that I think I'm hearing is in fact the clown loaches clicks? If so - they're REALLY loud.

I guess that it also sounds a bit like the splash when a fish jumps out of the water. A bit. Not much though. In fact, hardly like that at all, now that I think about it.

Yup,that's them. They go clickin' crazy if you give them algae wafers :S

I peal and slice a potatoe then zap it in the microwave for around 2 mins. It should be hard soft but not so soft as to fall apart. They love it :D

Meant to say this:

It should be soft but not so soft as to fall apart.

Thanks very much guys, helpful as usual!

One thing though, wuvmybetta and breezer40 said that they would click when I fed them, as did the original source that I read about the clicking, but mine seem to click all the time EXCEPT when they're being fed!

Oh well, at least my tank's not leaking!

Dave

PS - just out of curiosity, does anyone know HOW they make the sound?

If they're clicking while not feeding, they could just be playing :) Check out this member's pic of the spines that clowns have on the sides of their faces, they use them as a defense, could be part of the racket you're hearing

Sorry ladynaoko, I'm not actually Welsh. I'm a student at Cardiff University. Still, I do like it here, and intend to stay after I finish my course!

I think it's probably for the best that I keep quiet about whereabouts in Britain I'm from....... ;)

Ive found that the loaches make a clicking noise when i feed them "tetra tabimin" tablets.
They sink to the bottom of the tank, and it appears they try to break them up into little pieces.(sounds like they carry a hammer around with them)
I also have a little "sucker fish" that waits for them to drop to the bottm.then literally lies on top of them and nibbles away at them. The loaches then have to push him away so they can get a feed.

I never knew clown loaches had spines like that on their faces!!!

and yep im WELSH TOO!!!!!
