OK first of all, will 3 clown loaches live ok with malawi cichlids?

also, if the clowns would live ok with my cichlids, what shall i provide them with? hiding etc? ideas plz

ty

It depends how big the cichlids get. If you look at my sig you'll see I keep clown loaches with cichlids and yes they are fine for a while. If the cichlids get big ie: not dwarf ones then they will eventually be too aggressive. I plan to move my loaches in about a fortnight into a separate tank.Even then have been told that the loaches will get too big for my tank, but they are fun to watch grow and you can always rehome them. Hope this helps.

Clown loaches usually work well, they're usually just ignored, and they're superior size helps too.

I am keen on getting some clowns for my cichlids as well but little hesitant on if they are compatible.

Clowns tend to get on fine with Cichlids, the main issue is the water quality etc. Cichlids need a higher Ph than clowns. You tend to be OK if the Ph is around 7.5 as both types can tolerate this. Note the word 'tolerate' though, this is not the ideal environment for either but is has been done successfully. You'll probably be OK with the +2 as an extra filter, try it and if the water stays clear and the parameters are Ok you'll be fine. I personally think it will be enough for your tank provided you don't overstock.

u wont get much cheper than tuffa rock.

or you could just go and get a load of old river rocks from a river ;)

even limestone is fine for malawis..

to answer your rock question, I've got some lava type rock (Can't remember what it's called). You will find that there's not a lot cheaper than tufa because most shops sell rock by weight and tufa is dead light. This lava stuff is light too and it's quite dark in colour so it contrasts well colour wise (I'm such a girl!)
