Clown loaches need be kept in large groups, therefore require very big tanks. Can I ask what size your tank is?

It may be that the one you had is rather shy as it has been on its own, but give it time to get used to its friend and they should be fine, but bear in mind they should be kept in a larger group than only 2.

I'm guessing that his tank is 30g or less? I'd return them if otherwise, do a little research and you can find how big they get and their requirements.

originally we had 3 clowns as we were told that they are happy in a trio but 2 died unfortunately more or less straight away within days of being in the tank but the original clown seemed to be thriving on its own so left it but they are my favorites so got this new 1 as a playmate, the tank is quite big its 250 litres :)

thanks for that, ive still not seen it since Saturday night just hoping its not died :(

Mine took ages to become active and "out and about", was even hand feeding blood worm blocks. I then upgraded their tank and it's been a few weeks and still don't see them often, maybe one or two. Just gone back to being shy.
