clown loaches are really cool dont you think

I suppose you could say clown loach are too cool for their own good,

Due to their inquisitive nature and attractive 'tiger' stripe appearance they are highly sort after by newbs who in reality don't have a hope in housing a shoal of them properly

no becuase they grow too big for medium tanks, although they are good too look at mine died becuase they were starved to death, they wouldnt eat the sinking pelets

My biggest gripe with them is that they fall into the same category as pangias catfish, bala sharks, common plecs and other "common" pet store fish in that they're rather large fish that frequently get sold for 10-20 gal tanks.

Great fish if you can properly house them though.

I love them they are so bright! Shame our tank sprung a leak and we had to rehome them :(

i think i am the only person who does not like them i think they are too commowith people but i suppose if cared for proper and housed in a big enough tank can bring joy to their owners but i dont reli show any liking for them

I love 'em, that's why I have 19 of the buggers and spend far to much time & money on feeding them properly and looking after them the way they deserve to be. A school of clowns is a real sight!!!

We have 2 clown loach, and we were advised by the fish shop (is that LFS?) that they would be fine in our 90litre tank.

Having spent some time trawling through posts on here I can see we need 2 things, 1- a much bigger tank and 2 - more of tehm (to make a group of at least 5)

Can someone recommend a good size tank, and i see mentioned about feeding them properly, we feed a variety of frozen food (bloodworm etc), live(brine shrimp), flake, pellet, algae wafer and fresh veg and they seem to tuck into most of it. They really go nuts for the brine shrimp.

We really want a new tank anyway (its amazing how addictive fish are) so advice would be great, I think we can go 4' length max so maybe have to get teh volume through height?

thanks

7755matt, have you tried feeding your clowns cucumber, prawns or cooked chicken breast? If you are upgrading specifically for your loach I would advise increasing length & width rather than height, a 4x2x2 would be enough for the time being. Clowns get very big (12"+) but this does take some time, can be 10yrs or so.

A 40 gallon tank minimum to house a group of 6 or more
