For a few months mine has been off and on laying on it's side in the corner of my aquarium, like it's dead. It will lay there for a few then get up and start swimming like nothing ever happened. I think it plays dead so someone will check on it and then it goes on it's merry way. It's kinda interesting behavior. I should have asked this a few months ago, but is this behavior normal? See they can be goofy so I always thought it was acting goofy.

The guy at my lfs told me that ammonia can cause this, but I've checked it the ammonia was zero, but I'll check it again tomorrow.

Loaches sleep on their side like that. There is nothing to be worried about that. Actually most loaches sleep like that.

Yep all my loaches are the same, the Botia dario(Queen Loach) are the worst they spend most of thair time asleep. They all have there own special place in the tank where they take a nap.

we have two huge ones in the shop who squeeze themselves into this crevise in the tank and lie on their sides. lots of people ask us if we know we have got a dead fish... and think we are just being polite when we say, no, they are sleeping. hehe!

My clown loach sleeps upside down in a hollow tower ornament in the aquarium. You can just see the tip of his tail sticking out. Makes me smile everytime.

Clowns do do this and it is perfectly normal BUT dont confuse normal with illness as they will also roll over onto their backs when they are ill and lethargic (if you know your fish you will know when something is out of the ordinary) i'll post a vid of one of mine in a bit "he is acting really off at the minute" and its a sure sign to me something just aint right "shimmering his gills and just generally lethargic" dosing off constantly he's been like this a couple days now..

This really isn't too abnormal. They have done things like this for months.

does the loach ever seem to loose its colouring or seem to fade because mine do when they get spooked, or stressed.

That's norml behaviour. Many fish will change color when reacting to stress.

are clown loaches more prone to stress than others then because i nt realy noticed the others react. just used to be the same one all the time :S

i think they are a bit more prone to stress i learnt a year ago that they have skin so water ph temperature etc they should know first due to the lack of scales.
