I havn't as yet had time to buy a third Clown Loach. When I woke up Saturday morning my one Loach were on his side! At first I thought he was sleeping, but he was dead! I don't know why. He was always hiding and I never saw him eat. The 2 days before his death, he came out to swim with the other Clown. I think there are a few reasons why he died, 1. He was sick from the start, 2. He never ate because his friend was maby agressive?.
I am planning to get 2 other asap. I really feel bad about this!!! :(

Hey beesboer,

Really sorry you lost the little fella  . Keep an eye on your remaining clown and any other fish in your tank, but if they all seem happy and healthy and active, and if the water conditions in your tank are OK, I see no reason why you shouldn't carry on with your plan and get some buddies for your remaining clown as I guess he'll be pretty lonely! Clowns are very sensitive to poor water quality though, so make sure your ammonia and nitrites are at 0 before you go ahead.

Have you been keeping the clowns on a varied diet with bloodworm/veggies? If so then the fact your clown wasn't eating could be due to an internal parasite - apparently they are notoriously prone to carrying these as they are often caught in the wild. So don't feel too bad. :)

Hi,
I am so sorry you lost one of your loaches. I just lost one of mine recently and he too was hiding a lot before he died. I have noticed that mine hide now if they are a bit under the weather. A few weeks ago, one of them was not coming out and I finally got him out by treating sinking food with garlic drops. I noticed he had ich. he is fine now, but I give him and the others garlic on a regular basis a few times a week. helps with parasites and also helps their appetite!!! And they LOVE IT. I am getting ready to move 2 new loaches into the main tank on Wednesday. I figured I better get Loachie a few friends so he doesn't grow up thinking he's a red tailed shark!!!{this is his best friend!!}

How do you feed your louchie exactly Debo? I feed mine turbiflex worms and he eat the sinking flake's.

My male guppy isn't well this morning, I will do some water test a.s.a.p. thanks for the advice!

sorry for your loss, friend.
in the span of 4 weeks, i have lost 5 clowns. i had originally boughten 2, (14 bucks a pop) and they got ich (that white stuff). my hubby didnot think we had ich, and bought two more. :/
after the first one died, we got him replaced. then 2 more died days later. finally, the last ones died on the weekend.. so we've given up. :-( i hope you have better luck.

Don't give up on the loaches. They are a bit touchy, but oh so adorable. I just finished moving Spanky and Jarr Jarr into their new dis this evening. They were stoked!!!! It is so amazing how they found Loachie in the tank, and then the three of them kind of cruised the tank together and then Loachie took them into his CASTLE. As soon as I get my digital camera back from my daughter I'll email a photo. They are so cute. I do know you have to make certain your tank is cycled and that there are plenty of good secluded hiding places or they will get stressed and die quickly. Give it another shot.....they are well worth the work and worrying about them.

I feed mine sinking wafer food with a bit of garlic EXTREME drops on them. I noticed they really loved the smell and pulls them out of hiding in the beginning when they are really shy. Now they stay out a lot and they come running within seconds of me dropping the treated food. My corys love this treat too. AND the garlic will keep them healthy just like us!!!

Do you poor some garlic oil over the wafer, or is there some garlic stuff I must buy Debo? My clown is still doing fine and he's not so shy any more. But as soon as I get the time to go to my LFS I will get another 2 Clowns, I love my clown!!
:)

I bought 2 clown loaches yesterday and i am VERY pleased with them, i guess the main reason is they have very similar markings to the tiger barbs that i really wanted but without the attitude :D

Reading the above i don't think they will have too many problems in my tank as i have loads of rocks, plants and other exciting places for them to play in however i am a little concerned about diet -_- I was told that normal flake food is fine but it would appear that these little cuties like a varied diet and whats all this about garlic  some more info please... :)

Hi Blue Fin,

Good luck with your loaches! You might find this page on clown loach FAQ's helpful - I think it's really great

As for diet I have NEVER seen mine eat flake food - frozen bloodworm and cucumber keeps mine happy and chubby!

Hi Platypus, Thank's for the link...it's full of great info :) I will get some blood worms today but cucumber! do they like cheese or tomato with it? :D lol only kidding, sounds like these fish could be a very interesting addition to my tank :)

Hi,
My Loaches have never eaten flake food. I feed them
Everyday-they get a few sinking wafers treated with the garlic stuff and on alternating days they get these fish food beads that sink...............they love them. I also give them peas, cukes, and sinking shrimp pellets. They are really getting fun to watch, especially now with Jarr Jarr and Spanky in there. I fell asleep on my sofa last night watching them play. Loachie is sooooooooo happy now having some buddies to play with. Sharky's a little confused as they were best friends till the new clowns were added last night. I woke up this AM on the sofa, to find the three clown loaches AND sharky all huddled together resting. Sharky thinks he's a clown loach!!
PS-The Garlic stuff to get at the LFS is made by KENT and it's called Garlic EXTREME. It really SMELLS..................and they love it.
