I'm thinking of adopting a clown knife from work which is quite small and anyone that might beable to house it probable has fish that would eat it.

So I'm thinking of taking it home getting it feed up and getting it to a descent size so it can have a nice big loving home!!

Just wondering how fast it will grow, it's only 2-3 inches at the moment in 1 of the 4ft 3 way divided tanks. Mines 22gallon (30x12).

Also any ideas if that and my convict cichlid fry would get on as I'm growing some of them on aswell, a pair for myself and 3 to go back!!

Clown knife fish grow fast and if fed properly should grow about 1" a month until reaching 12" when the growth slows down considerably. A 22 gallon will only be suitable to hold the fish until it reaches around 7 inches in 4 or 5 months time, hardly worth it really.

I thought that might be the kind of size. I feel it is worth the effort as it's just getting ignored where it is and no ones ever going to beable to buy it at that size, plus it would be interesting for me :)

Any ideas on getting on with my convict fry, there all about an inch now so not immediate food, or would my convicts damage it's finage?

Cheers

A 1" fish is food to a 3" clown knife which are capable of taking fish around half their own size, the mouth on a clown knife opens like a trap door so that the whole front of the fish is open like a tube, anything that is slim enough to fit into the tube is swallowed.

How deceptive, they really don't look as if they have a big mouth. I guess the convicts can stay in the other tank then and scissor tails will be moved.
