I previously posted about wanting freshwater tropical fish in my classroom. I had some great replies but have recently been considering the possibilities of marine fish. I would ideally love a pair of clownfish. I'm looking at tropical starter kits like "Fish R Fun" kits. Does anyone know if these are suitable for this kind of fish and what size would be big enough?
Are the starter kits a good idea or should I buy everything separate?
Thanks
Phil

hi phil

i just persuaded my head to install an 80g in our foyer instead of the dreaded fake plants he's always been so keen on. as he was paying for it all i considered marines.
i decided against it for several reasons but the main ones are

1. Holidays, with 13 weeks a year away from school, whos going to maintain the tank EVERY DAY. at the moment i have the staff of the schools holiday club feeding my tropicals and i go in at least once a week to do water changes and maintanance but i certainly wouldn't trust them to look after an sw tank.

2. KIDS. Marines are far to sensitive to cope with the odd child who's ADHD encourages him to give the fish that extra sprinkle of food when noones looking, or even throw in a few of his crisps left over from his lunchbox.

I don't know what experience you have with fishkeeping already but i certainly wouldn't recomend SW for real begginers.

i dont know anything about the tropical "fish are fun" starter kits, but i'm sure they are exactly what they state they are "tropical" starter kits.

Fair point. What would you suggest in a 10 gallon tank in a year 1 classroom?
