Hi IMCL85
Those are C. weitzmani, and that was not a very bad price for them. They are very scarce and hard to come by.
Until 2004 they were thought to be extinct. Then, while building a road in a wilderness area of Peru, they found some. They are evidently only in this one place or at least that is the only place they are known to be. When they were first introduced cory collectors in Japan paid in excess of $1000 US for each fish, so the price has come down considerably.
Unfortunately for them, the reason they were found is that they are mining for gold in that area and it is feared that it won't be long before their water is polluted by waste products from the mining process.
Cory folks want to be the first to spawn and raise them in aquariums in order to save the species from real extinction this time. They have been hatched, but it is too early to know if the breeder will be able to raise the few fry to adulthood. My own C. weitzmanis have given me 9 eggs, but it doesn't seem that they will hatch.
I'm pleased that they are healthy and happy enough with the environment I have provided them with to spawn and hope they will do it again.
Here are some pictures of them:
All three together. The female is the biggest one and the two males are smaller.
