Cloudy White Areas On My Cardinals

I'd say the plants have brought in parasites and if the whitespot gets into the gills then its not good but there could be other diseases present that are hiding behind the whitespot.
What temperature is the water at, as i would slowly every couple of hours turn it up a notch to the mid 80's f and make sure theres lots of air going in.

Are you using dechlorinator? If not then there could be something in the water thats irritating them. If you are then the flow riding could be gill disease or the parasites in there.

OK, i did a 40% water change and gave just a little less than a full dose of Interpet AntiWhitespot - since there is already Interpet 6 in there in low concentrations.

I`m worried they may also have a fungal infection which is attacking their gills via errosion but i don`t know if i can dose with anti fung at the same time!

THERE is 100% white spots, like grains of salt on many fish, and many of them, have them on their fins and tails. I suppose i can just retreat with this after 4 days and hope to god it works!

Thanks for all the help

I`ll keep you posted...i`ve heard this Interpet antiwhitespot is good stuff, so ..fingers crossed!

Chris

Try the whitespot med for now and see how they go, don't like mixidng meds in main tanks, does the gills look like they are being eaten away.

Hi guys, i`ve done the first 4 days and on the reapplied the med, now 2 days after the redose. There are still white dots on my cardinals!! the gills look less red and they have stopped flicking against things but they still physically have the white spots.

Any suggestions....the interpet doesnt say anything about a 3rd dose and i presume if there if they have white spots on them, there could be white spot in the water!

If you are still seeing white spots, you need to continue to treat for ich. Have you increased the temperature in your tank? That will help speed up the ich life cycle. I have also heard of people doing 50% water changes/grave vacumes are useful to remove the parasite in its free swimming stage and the stage where it lives in the gravel.

Do a thirty percent water change and carry on with the med, good luck.

If you've done your first dose (day one) then second dose (day four) and the white spots are still visible on the fish by around day 8, then do a 50% water change and very very good gravel vac. Then start re-dosing meds again (day one, and then day 4). Do not be tempted to skip a dose and do not under dose.

Please remember - do not mix any medications and only treat for one thing at a time.

I didn't know that this tread existed already, when I posted in your most recent thread.

Just to update...white spot is gone and all the cardinals survived!

Hurra to Waterlife Protazin ...seemed to clear it up better than the interpet stuff!

LOL that made me laugh

Congrats Craynerd! can you give us a run down of what you did? just wondering if i ever get this problem and ill know what too do!

Glad it all ended happy for once, good job.

I stuck more or less to the instructions:

Dosed day 1, 2, 3 but since i have a planted tank i really needed to water change to reset it! So i did a water change Day 6 and topped up with 2 doses of the med to replace what i removed. Maybe this was a bit risky, but the tank was getting minging so i had to water change. With the waterlife being a accumulation concentration over a few days, i thought i`d double dose after the water change to bring the concentration back up.

Anyway, it worked!
