Cloudy Water

any body any ideas why its still cloudy, could it be this dead fish, i cant get the thing

well, still seems possible to me that its a bacterial bloom being fed by the dead fish.. seems quite plausible

On the other hand, this question might fall into that category of "very difficult to diagnose over the internet" :-(

because I guess there's a chance it could also be something about the habits of the water authority, given the LFS fellow already mentioned the friday thing.. still more inclined to think its the dead fish body however, especially if the fish had some size.

You don't have any unusual media in the filter do you? Just the usual sponges, ceramics or floss?

all the filters are the same sort, only thing i changed was the white filter material, i bought a different make instead of the Juwel one, but cant imagine that would be the cause, or maybe it would.

got the fish out this morning, but cant do a water change till tues at the earliest because of the chorline added by the water board, but if it was the fish it sould clean up itself

Oh, well that's a major development that you got the dead fish out, if it clears in a few days then maybe we will know it was due to that.

hi

really worried now, been 3 days now and the water is getting cloudier, its almost as if someone has drop a pint of milk in there. I did 50% water changed but seemed to fog up quite quicky, got the dead fish out, i know there are no others.

Had a water sample into the shop and nothing wrong other other than a slighty high nitrate, which was due to the dead fish.

I will perform another water changed today, but am so confused as to what can be causing it

Is there anything questionable about the new floss you put in a short while back? Could it somehow be that its not just pure clean polyfloss or something? I can't think of what else to suggest, perhaps just keep up the water changes for now...

That was my next question. I would try removing the floss and letting the filter run without it for a couple of hours to see if the cloudiness subsides.

[Edit] Place the floss in a bucket of clean dechlorinated water in the meantime and check the clean water after a couple of hours to see if it's gone cloudy.

just been back in the shop, PH levels through the roof and so have added a buffer to bring it down. Apparently a few people in the area have been to see him about cloudy water this last 2 weeks. So not sure if its something reacting with water the water company are adding. Its a bit worrying though

This has more and more hallmarks of something really strange with the water company lab. I forget, have you been able to talk with anyone good at the lab, or their supervisors?

i need to try to speak with someoen tomorrow and will give you an update

hi guys

okay, well spoke to the water board and they said nothing has changed to the water, and sent me a water report, to be honest it means nothing to me.

I did another water change yesterday as it was so cloudy could bearly see.It doesnt seem to effect the fish at all, and as my fish shop guy said, they like it that way, its just our vanity that like a crystal clear tank.

Still, curious as hell as to where it is coming from.

try adding declouder that makes the water crystal clear and stuff,

make a 75% water change,

and get that fish out of your tank!

I don't care where it's wedged, do you think your fish like a dead guy in their bedroom??? 0_-

Yeah, take care of those, and you've probably got it all =P

Oh heck, that wasn't very helpful! Do we care that is hasn't *changed* when we don't understand what's wrong with it to begin with!!

I'm stumped for tonight...
