Cloudy Water

hey there, was wondering if anyone might know why the water in my tank goes cloudy after water changes, the gravel's not new, i use tap safe with the new water and it clears up by itself after about 12 hours.
It's a 40 litre tank with 2 apple snails, 7 small danios, 2 bronzed catfish, a dwarf gourami and 2 betta splendas.
Can anyone help please??

it's been set up for 6months now but it's only been happening for the last few months.
and the tap water's crystal clear.
any ideas??

Do you turn off the filter when you do a water change?. Sometimes any gunk in the filter gets spat out when you turn it back on.

if you agitate the gravel during the water change, all the leftover food and waste floats out from the gravel and circulates around your tank until it gets sucked up by the filter. this contributes toward cloudy water. do you have a gravel vac?
