CLOUDY WATER my tank (40gal, sand, coral, live plants and 3 cichlid) has been set up for a couple of months, i do a 20% water change ever week, i test the water and its fine, & still CLOUDY WATER. i have a BIO wheel 200, with 2 filters in it and its making noise, like sand is in it.

When did the cloudiness occur?
Have you done anything to the tank recently such as replacing filter media? Adding any new decor?

You really should also take your filter apart and give it a clean.

One of my tanks has sand and a biowheel. I have to take the filter off the tank every other week and rinse it out (and remove the impeller, too and rinse that). I then rinse the whole thing with dechlorinated water. I think the sand gets sucked up into the filter when the cories go cruising around the bottom and stir up the sand!

How cloudy is the water? Is it more of a slight haze? My tanks take awhile after a new setup before they get that crystal-clear look (actually the 55 is so clear now it looks like lucite! -- but it's been running for 8 months.) Your tank will naturally clear up if your water conditions, stocking levels, feeding and water changes are all proper.

Oh yeh, sometimes dead plant matter gets sucked up into the filter and gets wrapped around the impeller. That will make the filter make noise, too.

I havent done anything new to the tank in a while. when i do a water change i rinse the filters... i dont know whats wrong with the filter, i clean the blade all the time, trying to fix the noise. its not that clouldy but i've seen better, there is also a film on the top of the water that i dont know how to fix. when i put my fingers in it (which is not much) it clears alittle bit of the flim. i think i do everything right and i was doing so well for along time.

well i havent change anything and when i woke up this morning, the water was clear. i wish i knew what happen but im just glad it got better
