Cloudy water need help please!!

I have no idea what Tetra EasyBalance is, otherwise I'd be more ready to either censure or endorse it. As far as I can tell, nobody else on the web has posted any independent research on what EasyBalance consists of; of course, Tetra is mum on the topic (otherwise the rest of us would start mixing it in our bathtubs at home).

Having said that, at this point I *would* be inclined towards that anaerobic bacteria hypothesis. "Low oxygen environment" would describe any situation where gravel hasn't been stirred or agitated for months; if you introduced facultative anaerobic bacteria to this setting in which they'd be using nitrates for respiration, you could only anticipate a proliferation. In a low O2 setting they'd be in anaerobic mode and producing things like hydrogen sulfide (smells like rotten eggs), and any number of other gases.

It does sound like your fish are O2 deprived. How are your fish doing? I'd recommend doing daily, or twice daily water changes until things are cleared up.

Ok, Thanks!!
Water is still very very cloudy, but I have not lost any more fish from it. (That I am aware of, water is too cloudy to tell)
I will quit using the EasyBalance, it can be found at your local Wal-mart in the pets dept.
I will keep changing the water slowly, but gradually in order to clear things up. Hope it works. When I am changing the water I am trying not to stir the gravel causing this to continue.
Lots of advice, thanks!!! This is a great community!!!!

A BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!!! My water is clearing up, I have changed the water 3 days straight. And that seems to be working. With a little help from my filter of course. No more fish are dying, and they seem relatively happy. Lost 5 fish total, mostly Tetras. They must need the cleanest water to survive. The platies seem to always survive. Just wanted everyone to know. None of the advice was bad advice, so I took it all to heart!!!
I love this forum, thanks!!!!!!
