Hi all! Hope everyone is well and coping with this pandemic. It has been a while since I posted.

Just wondering what everyone thought of my tank. Cleaned as usual, no new fish, however we have added a new ornament. The water has a slight cloudy tinge to it which would indicate a bacterial bloom but I am just wondering why? Could this literally be from the new ornament? Washed it under the tap when we got home from the fish store and also rinsed it in some tank water from our clean before placing in our tank. All fish still seem well.

Thank you. :)

I can see it. Maybe try a water change. If it’s been cycled recently, it could be from that. Normally it’s caused by elevated nutrient levels, but if you haven’t really changed anything I’m not sure what would have caused it. You can try adding carbon to the filter, but I’d try a water change and see if it helps!

Thanks. Literally cleaned the tank as usual yesterday and added the new ornament and it has been like this since. So strange. Would you still reccomend a 25% change? Or see if it settles? X

Looks like a mild bacterial bloom to me . Have you checked your ammonia and nitrite ?

How big was the water change yesterday? Since it’s not harmful to your fish, you could wait for it to settle and see if it improves. A water change won’t hurt though. You could do something a bit larger, maybe 40-50%

Is the tank cycled?
Usually change about 30%, tank is cycled - had our tank and fish for over a year. Just don't understand what could have caused this but I guess that they can potentially happen randomly?! X

Milky cloudy water is caused by a bacterial bloom.
Green cloudy water is caused by algae.

Wipe the inside of the glass and see if that helps.

You need a picture on the back of the tank to help the fish feel more secure.

+1 for doing something with the back of the tank - I painted mine with ’blackboard‘ paint.
