Hello
Just set up a new tank, Fluval Roma 125, swapped out the Internal Filter for a Fluval Canister 207.
Added thoroughly washed substrate (even though it said it was pre washed) a few Rocks and ‘Fake’ Tree Roots, no plants yet.
Added AquaCare Tap water conditioner and Interpet Fast Filter Start, that was Wednesday, yesterday I added the last bit of substrate ( washed) that I had left, as I changed the design 👍
Around 3 hours later the water turned cloudy and has been like since, now is this normal ?
Could it be Bacterial Bloom, even though it seems pretty fast for that ?
Any help/advice appreciated.
Thanks

It could be particulate matter from the substrate, but more likely a bacterial bloom. Most people would be amazed at how much dissolved organics are in tap water, and the bacterial that feed on these can reproduce rapidly, roughly every 20 minutes. Once you use conditioner, you open the door for the bacteria. They are harmless, though it is unsightly. I have had this last a few hours (rarely), to a few days (usually) and even to a few weeks (rare). Water changes ironically do not help much, as this is only bringing in even more "food" for these bacteria. I have never tried not using conditioner to see if it makes much of a difference, as I tend to add fish right away (I always have plants, and lots of floaters in tanks, so never need to fuss over cycling) and I don't want to kill them off with chlorine.

Hey :)
what substrate did you add ?
What are tour tapwater parameters ?
Interpet Fast Filter Start
This + tapwater = bacteria bloom. It usually occurs at the beginning. No worries. Be patient, the filter will do its job in a few weeks.

Not sure what the tap water parameters are in my area of the UK
The substrate was a commercially bagged ready washed fine gravel from my local Aquarium Shop.

I guessed it was Bacterial Bloom but just thought it was a little early for it, obviously not 😊
I’d sort of resigned myself to leaving it to clear up itself, I just wanted to clarify that it wasn’t something serious, so Thank You for putting my mind at rest.

You should ask your "water supplier" ;)

Pity.
Be carefull in cash you wish Corydoras, they must have a large dedicated area/beach made with very smooth/polished sand/gravel.

Best way is to let Mother Nature manage it.

Why didn't you add planrs fishes want to feel unstressed and secured, and aquarium to be balanced ? It's more convenient to plant in an unfilled tank.

I just filled my 27g cube this morning. I've got CaribSea eco planted somethingorother substrate on top of organic top soil. And a lot of dragon stone plus a couple pieces of driftwood.
It is cloudy :) But I expected that.

I used tap water (hard) and the aquarium shop said it looked good except for low Ph, but he would test it again after I got my water in the tank on top of the substrate.

I had no idea it could take weeks to clear. I figured a day or two, but I'm semi patient.

I will be planting but I’ve not been able to visit the shop to choose them due to work.
The shop I bought the tank etc from, don’t have a great plant stock unfortunately but I shall plant soon and before adding any Fish 👍

For most analysis, results are from samples taken at random in the water quality zone of your area. In some cases, results are from samples taken from water treatment supply points feeding the zone.

If you wish livebearers hard water fishes, it is fine.
In case of soft acidic water fishes you mau have to dilute tapwater with ROwater to meet fishes expectation as closely as possible.

There is nothing alarming on there. GH is 8° converting to 144ppm. PH is not going to suit acid loving v. Soft water fish but you still have plenty of options. The nitrates at 6.5 are not high enough to be a problem.

I go on the recommendations of https://www.seriouslyfish.com. The only livebearers within range are guppies and this is right at the bottom of their tolerance. There are many other fish that could thrive in this water.

I agree with Naughts. I would not recommend keeping livebearers in water with a GH below 10 dGH (180 ppm) or some species higher, with mollies 15 dGH (215 ppm) minimum. The GH of 8 dGH for the OP opens up many options, but all for soft water species, many of which will do very well.
