Can anyone recommend a good very close shoaling fish for my 200 litre planted tank, preferably colourful. I have thought about cardinals, rummy nosed and neons but wanted to know if anyone else had any suggestions. Tank parameters as follows,
Water: 25 degrees, 0 amm, 0 nitrite, typically 10-20 nitrate, pH 6.4 - 6.6, GH 5-6Fish: 6 Colombian tetras, 6 corys, 6 scissortails, 3 dwarf gouramis (1m, 2f), 5 German blue rams (1m,4f), 2 amano shrimps and 2 cherry shrimps.
The gouramis and rams are always spawning so I think this needs to be taken into consideration. When my gouramis first spawned I woke to 4 dead danios killed while the male protected his nest. I now moved the nest and the male into a breeding tank and take the male out when the fry are free swimming

I would say Cardinals. Great in large numbers, I have 40, really nice to watch

ive just got some sundadanio axelrodi they seem tight shoaling and theyr very nice looking

Copperline Harlequins (either T.espei or T.hengeli)
Volcano Rasbora (slightly larger rasbora)
Glowlight Danio (do better in slightly warmer than other species and swim low/mid level ulike the zebras etc)
Emerald Rasbora
Emerald Eye Rasbora

Rasbora tend to shoal together much tighter than tetras do :)

I love Galaxy Rasbora, they're very small, but will probably become a 'tighter' shoal.

I'd increace the number of collumbians, i had 6 in my 260L tank i then increaced the numbers to 10 and the change in behaviour was nothing short of amazing. More movement, more colourful, even some breeding behaviour i think.

They used to group at one end of the tank unless the light was down now they are really comfortable all over the tank. I'm going to add some more after the wife has got her shoal of panda's (that were still waiting for) seems to be a shortage of em at the minute?

^^ thats good advise, a few more columbian tetras will mean happier fish!

Torred: there are two different species. Glowlight tetras are bigger and kind of clear with one orange strip down their body. Glowlight danios are smaller and a big mix or oranges and yellows and a bit of purples.

My golden barbs are ALWAYS right swimming together. I have 9,they're also very hardy, I've never lost one! They are quite the piggies.
I've also temporarily have 1 cherry barb, who is also really pretty. I've read they're a little shyer than golden barbs if you don't want such a high activity one, but I find my cherry always in my golden barb school, so I would imagine that they would also be great schoolers!

Although I don't know how they would do with your rams and gourami's while spawning. I'll leave that to the experts. :good:

Thanks all for the ideas, I really like the look of the galaxy Rasporas but need to get the planted side sorted to their satisfaction first. I am still thinking of a largish shoal of cardinals, maybe 15. And upping the Colombians to 10 as suggested. Would this be pushing my stocking level?

+1 glowlight danios, I had some before and they were gorgeous active little fish.

In a 4-foot tank, midwater and diurnal "Debauwi Catfish" (P. buffei, very rarely P. debauwi) are very tight schoolers.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I have just purchased 20 Diamond Head Neons to complete my stocking. They look magnificent in my tank and I am really pleased. Thanks again.
