give mine shelled peas since the shells have a tendency to clog the filter, zucchini, cucumber, lettuce soaked in tank water overnight anything their little hearts desire. also rotate it so as not to bore them.
use the weights that you can get for plants. make a slit in the veggie and thread the weight through. when the food is gone the weight can stay in the tank til the next feeding. works great.
as for the mess. take a short peice of syphon hose, put a nylon over the end to catch the debris, and vaccuum the food up. let the water go right back into the tank. know what i mean? works great.
