Others say my tank water is clear, so I guess I'm a perfectionist. I also have some medical problems (physical problems) so I look at my tank very often, so I guess that can play havoc on my impressions of the water being clear or not. Anyway my question is What do you do to keep your water clear? Do you use anything special?

I thought about buying a canister filter. Do you use one? How does it work? I thought about using it as the same time I use my already existing one, maybe it will give me a double whammy of sorts.

canister filters are great because they hide under not in tank<more space>and they prob move more water phour....have more sponges / stones etc for bacteria to grow......whatsn the stocking list you have in your tank :shifty:

can you explain exactly in what way it isn't clear, is there debris floating? does it appear slightly milky? green? brown?

each one is caused by different things and requires a different solution. if you can describe it or better still post a pic we can maybe help

The only way to have Gin clear water in an aquarium is to use a diatomic filter.

These are highly specialized filters used to "polish" the water. They use Diatomaceous earth powder to coat a filter bag and filters water down to microns in size. Due to the high efficiency of these filters, they are to be used only sporadically and for short periods of time.

scroll to Hobby dohse and click for more info.
That link is for Hobby the most common one used in Europe, for the USA do a search for Vortex.

This will get you to a Vortex Diatom Filter. These filters use diatomacious earth as the filter media. They are extremely efficient. They filter down to 2 microns ie. they will filter out ich! I

If you surf a little you will find the Vortex site and you can do some more reading. Vortex is not the only hobby type diatom filter however, it is arguably the best hobby grade diatom.

I have some little tetras, a marble molly, 2 skirt tails, a blue ram cichlid in it. It is a 30 gal FW community tank.

Also about this Vrtex Diatom Water Filter, do you use one? Is it a pretty good device? Why can't I use it continueously.

Will the canister filter work?

Agree with dave, purigen'll do it and very cheaply, but watch your tank doesn't re-cycle when it becomes over soiled.
Or follow the instructions and re'generate' it.
Or buy a new one, £15 a pop.
