Clear Spots On Fins - Sick Or Not?

lfs means local fish store... there is also lps = local pet store.

Not sure I understood the marbling gene, something which causes discoloration? Would that not show all the time? I am (and I think laurasbetta also) talking about partial discoloration occuring suddenly

Thanks! You learn something every day.

Actually the discoloration or fading was gradual over 2 months or so. My theory is that it has to do with the light/dark cycle since his source of heat was a 60 Watt desk lamp by his tank. I'll let you know if anything changes now that he is on regular light/dark cycles again.

Of course, that's only my guess!

A marble betta exhibits at least two colors. The betta has a base color (often flesh colored) and blotches of another color over the base body color, and often the fins as well. This pattern appears to be closely linked to the Butterfly pattern, as many marbles also produce butterflies and vice versa. Marble bettas can change color and pattern throughout their entire life.

Cool! I'll keep watching his progression then.

One more question involving day & night cycles - At night is it OK to leave the small 4 watt light on in his tank (or some small light in the room) or give him complete darkness?
