Cleaning Top Glass

Hi,
I recently bought an old aquarium; however, the top glass where the light traverses to bring the light inside the aquarium is kinda of dirty. Using only hot water does not wash away the stains. Using chemicals is a nono. Is there any ways to clean that hood ?

You might try soaking it in a white vinegar solution. It does wonders on hardwater deposits and such. I think I usually use a 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water solution, but I don't really measure just eyeball it. I'd soak it for 20-30 minutes and then give it a good wipe and rinse and see if that helps. If it's a particularly stubborn build up on a glass top you can also carefully scrape it off with a razor blade.
