I bought an electric pump for cleaning the muck of the top of the sand but its absolute rubbish theres no power at all.

so what is the best way to clean up the crap / muck from the bottom of the tank (just sits on top of the sand)

ive also tried swizling the new in a figure of 8 motion to try an get some of it up, but its a little difficult with all the plants an stones in there

im open to all suggestions :)

hi i just use pipe that comes with my gravel cleaner take of the big end tube suck on the pipe and just hover over the sand this picks the bits up and does'nt mess the sand up make sure you don't push pipe into sand has it will draw up sand just hover about 1/2 inch above hope this helps

if i do that wont too much water come out into a bucket?

If your worried about the time and water loss, siphon into the same tank, but put a stocking over the exit end of the hose like a manual filter :hyper:

Excellent idea Slush, thats the kind of thing they can't teach, common sense.

Made it up just then lol, so i havent actually tried it yet, let me know how it works and i might try it... takes more than 25% of my water to clean all the gravel!!

It's physically impossible to syphon water from your tank back into the same tank...

Edit: If you're worried about water loss, just vac your sand when you do your weekly water change. The water needs to be replaced anyhow, might as well kill two birds with one stone.
