I recently had like 30 guppie fry, and since i wanted to put them in the same tank, i put a tank devider in a 10 gal tank, so my other fish dont eat the fry!

Now, my tank is a little dirty, and i want to clean it. How should i do it? because inorder to clean it, i would have to take the devider out, and if i do that, the other fish would eat the fry. On top of that, im scared that too much of water movement and splashing might kill some of the fry since they are 2 days old.

Any suggestions on how to do this? and i dont want to take the fry out with teh net because they are so small im scared they mugth get stuck, or die because they are so young.

Hi, Can you not just clean out the area with the bigger fish in-for the short-term?

Alternatively you could use a Sieve (Siv) which is harder than a net, to scoop up the fry and get someone to hold it whilst you clean that area. Just a thought. (Have u got a Floating breeding trap> could put them in it whilst cleaning...)

Good luck.

its kinda dirty, but even if i wait like another few days it will be the same thing.

First clean on one side of the divider, then the other. Siphon the fry side into a bucket, if you suck up any fry pull them out of the bucket with a turkey baster & put them back where they belong.

A piece of air line tubing is standard equipment for siphoning fry tanks. In a pinch you could use your usual gravel vac, keeping your thumb over the output to slow or stop the suction if needed.

For adding water take an empty milk carton or pop bottle, and poke a couple of 1/8" holes in it. Cut a piece of eggcrate to fit over the tank, place the holey container on this, and pour replacement water into it.

If you have a small powerhead & some of the right size tubing you can pump water from a bucket into the fry tank.
