Cleaning Black Sand

hi,

I have recently changed from gravel to black sand in my 70 liter tank. How do i remove the debris and waste from the top of the sand with my substrate cleaning kit without sucking it all up?

Ideas are very welcome ... I'm stumped!

Just hover the end of the water changing tube a few centimeters over the debris and it will be sucked up

I find that just hovering it, wont lift the debris of the gravel, so I make a kind of whirlwind, by swirling the end of the gravel vac around, that lifts it off the sand and sucks it up. Minimizes the amount of sand you suck up.

or do what i do put some kind of tights over the top and the poop and bits will still go through but the sand wont!!! saves wasting any sand and keeps it cheap!!!

Thats a great idea ... i was wondering if filtering it in this way was possible
