Hi i'm soon going to be getting my boyfriends juwel 180 which i'm going to make into a malawi ciclid tank but at the mo it's infested with snails that reproduce at a ridiculous rate.

I'm not bothered about killing off bacteria coz i'm going to change all filter medium in case of eggs or anything in them, the thing is i need something that i can flush everything with(filter, tank etc) that will kill any eggs and snails because i won't be able to clean every nook and cranny in the filters and it only takes 1 to start it all off again.

Is it too risky to use something like bleach as i might not be able to remove all traces?

Hi sarahw20000 :)

Chlorine bleach is safe to use if you rinse well, add a fair amount of dechlorinator to the final rinse water, and let everything air dry.

Your best bet would be to replace the gravel. I've boiled it to remove snails and also used bleach. Either way, it's more work than it's worth. :hyper:

Get some clownloaches they love a bit of snail :D
Ummm....I think that is a very bad idea. first of all, the plan is for a cichlid tank. These are VERY agressive fish. Secondly, the tank is 180 Ltr, which is too small for a permenant home. Check out this discussion on tank size for clown laoches. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=119995 Unless someone is ready to care for these fish's long term needs, i would be very hesitant to recomend them.

Hey,

Do clownloaches go well with guppies, mollies, platies and tetras?
