Hi all, not sure if I have put this in the right area, but I suppose it could apply if you had a new tank that you needed to clean before you used it!

I switched tanks at the weekend, transferring from a small tank to a larger one.

I need to clean the old small tank to prepare it for sale. What is the best way to clean it that won't damage the silicon seal? I can see tiny filaments of algae on the glass surface that I want to get off! Basically I want my tank to be sparkling so it looks its best for sale, and is clean and safe for the next user.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance

You can use a strong salt solution and a sponge with a scrubby side, you know the plasticy scrubbers? How dirty are we talking here? If you've got hard water marks then you can use venegar or lemon juice to get them off.

Just be sure to rinse well :)

An yes, vinegar and its million uses! (I have a book all about them lol....sad I know!) We're not taking massively filthy or anything, just grubby looking after taking out all the old tank stuff, and probably hard water marks yes.....

By plasticy scrubber what do you mean? Do you mean a sponge with pan scourer or is that too harsh? (given my glasses in my kitchen have survived that should ok right?)

Yeah you usually get them with a sponge on one side and the scrubber on the other :) I use one of these

Fill with water and 25% (thin) household bleach. Leave over night then rinse out several times with clean water. Let completely air dry then wipe with a soft cloth.......

Clean and stirile :good:
