Cleaning acrylic aquarium?

I have a 10 gal molded acrylic aquarium, and I don't know how to keep it clean. I tried using those scrubbie pads that are for algae but it scratched and now that spot looks cloudy(I stopped when I realized it was scratching and so the spot is about 2.5" in diameter.) How do you keep it clean? I bought an algae eater, but he isn't making any headway, and he's been in there for three weeks now...

You can get a scrub pab made for acrylic tanks at your LFS. They dont scratch at all unless you get some sand cought in the pad
