In a 50, you could do 6 upside-down cats and 3-4 bulldog plecos.

But I will be having plenty of platy in there as well. Sure there is only 4 now but.... Wouldn't the catfish and the plecos take up all of the inch of fish per gallon thing?

Just so you know, with a good sized group of upside down cats, liek 6, as suggested by reverand, they will be the show stealers. nobody will notice your platies, only the beutiful cats

I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to guide me in the right direction. Although i do not plan on doing this for a few weeks, i am looking for a bottom feeder or bottom feeders suitable for my 4 ft long 50 gallon tank.

I do not want to have to buy special pellets for said bottom feeders. I have flake brine and bloodworms.

This is a platy tank. I love platy.

My boyfriend thinks platy are as generic and plain as goldfish so i would like the bottom feeder or feeders to be to his liking. Cool guy fish.

Any suggestions??

Can I just say that whatever fish you choose they will need to be fed bottom feeder pellets. It's not fair to expect them to live off scraps and if you have platies which will eat from all levels of the tank at feeding times, they might go hungry. JBL make a good cheap catfish pellet. I bought a pot for £1.99 months ago and it's not even a quarter gone yet.
