Well thanks littleme, neontetra and donya for all your replys as all advice and info is appreciated! 
I think I will take it easy with the CUC and only get a few at a time to meet the requirements of the tank after it is cycled.
Everybody seems to have their own opinions on what works best for them so I think I am going to do the same and see what works best for me usng the good old trial and error method and see how I get on!!
This way hopefully my tank will have its own personal touch and not be a copy of somebody elses!
