Clean Tubes

Anyone? Id like to know if anyone experiences any spikes in water quality when they have done this on large tanks? Im worried about losing the bacteria in the tubes?

I would assume that you would be fine with cleaning out the pipes seeing as, from what I've read on here, it's safe to remove 1/3 of your filter media without causing much, if any, harm to the tank?

I think it would help with water flow as well. If you make a habit of keeping the pipes clean then most of the bacteria would colonize on your media.

My tanks a 200ltr and its fine. I just done a water test there, and everythings as normal. It's been a couple of days since I cleaned my filter tubes.

I drain water from the tank using the filter connection. This effectively flushes the pipes every week when I do a water change.
I know most people use a syphon to drain water so they can clean their substrate at the same time,as I used to.
I don't use them anymore because I could never clean the whole substrate properly with out taking out more water than I wanted to.So I bought a battery powered cleaner off of Amazon for about a tenner. My pipes stay clean and my substrate(sand) is spotless.

Thanks guys! Just bought some tube cleaners and will be doing them at the weekend - wish me luck!!

Where did you get your "JBL Cleany things" from? Any links that can be posted on here?
