Are they aqaurium safe in the way of not altering ph or kh?

yes totally safe in all respects

yep, just make sure to use new ones, and I tend to boil them for a bit first before adding them into my tank, just to be safe.

Nope, just wash em' good and you'll be fine. I have a bunch in my Puffer tank and they love them. It didn't alter anything so, you're fine.
