Please could a mod look into sorting the classifieds section into regions.

It is set up for UK/US, but would be so much easier and quicker if you could sort by region...North, South, Wales,Scotland etc, it is taking me ages to find anyone near to me that is selling what I need!

Thanks,

Nathalie x x x

That would only work for collections though, if i am looking for a plant, then i would still have to look through every section as 99% of people post plants. It wors for larger items, but ideal for others.

They might aswell put another rule stating you should have your location in the subtitle or the post will be removed. It would be much easier.

agree with aaron, because there's no sense looking at the ad just to find out that it's way too far anyways...but yet with plants or other postable items, it doesn't matter really.

would be nice to have the subtitle be location.

This has been asked for loads of times. I think it would be a great idea. Sort by region and then a 'will post' area too. I've pretty much given up on the Classifieds section now as it takes so long to look through. It was redesigned without any user consultation to its detriment IMHO but as i said at the time, this site is a free service and the powers that be can do what ever they like.

Still the best fish forums on the web. :good:

if people just put where they are in the 2nd line of the title, we wouldnt have a problem, location, will/will not post

yes, thats what i thought, the idea is all well and good, but where do us midlanders stand, north south? it would only complicate it further

The original suggestion for this (ages ago) was by County/State. It would be pretty worrying if people found it 'complicated' to find their own County and didn't know which surrounding ones were in driving distance.

To put it another way. Look at the professional sites:

http://www.wooo.co.uk/

http://www.gumtree.com/

http://www.classifieds.co.uk/

http://www.adtrader.co.uk/

All searchable\listed by region. Like it or not thats how its done.

Look at eBay too. When searching for a tank do you look for all tanks (knowing full well that 99% of people selling tanks will not post) or do 'nearest first'?

And to preempt 'there would be too many Countys to search through...' Dont be so lazy!

http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/ the most well known Aquarist classified site is dreadful and good TFF classifieds could really tempt some more members so its a real shame that some of the mods here refuse to acknowledge these requests and failed to ask the site community how they would like to see the section structured.

Er, yes, but this isn't an advertising site. The Classifieds section replaced the old Buy, Sell, Swap as the format is better, but that doesn't mean we need to replicate proper selling sites.

More and more subdivisions is just messy and annoying. The whole idea of the template is that location is put in the title, and if that isn't being enforced then it's a problem for the mods. You could divide the section forever and ever and ever and I'm sure people would still complain; if people paid attention to the location rule there would be no need to have this conversation.

I may be missing something but I can't quite understand how having to search multiple counties would be any easier than searching the 5 sections (Livestock, Plants, Equipment, Wanted & Exchange) we have now. I'm certainly not familiar with how the counties/states are set up in the UK but speaking for me here in the states, there are easily 15 to 18 counties that are 1 hour or less driving distance from me. North Carolina has 100 counties (texas has 254). Maybe there would only be 3 or 4 within driving distance of you but is that really any easier than searching the 5 we have considering there may be something in another county that could be shipped meaning you have to search all the counties anyway.

I can certainly take it to the mods to put it back as it was. I don't use it as the US is so spread out that it's of little use over here but I think if I were in the UK, I would rather have it as it is now as opposed to the old way.

It took me 5 minutes to find the location of every topic on the first page of the UK equipment section, as long as they provided a location. If you are looking for a tank I'm sure you would pass up the filter, background, and other topics. I'm sure the other sections wouldn't go much differently if I went through them.

OK. Say Im living in Newcastle upon Tyne

What is easier? Type thse in to the search box (assuming the lister is one of the 10% of people who puts in a location)

Newcastle upon Tyne
Newcastle
Tyne
Durham
Country Durham
Teeside
Hexham
Darlington
Sunderland
Middlesborough
Morpeth
....
Ad infinitum

or

Click on the Sub-Forum called 'Tyne and Wear & Country Durham'

Er, yes, but this isn't an advertising site.

Actually I would This site is whatever the Administrators make of it and it could be even better than it is now if it had a grade A listings\exchange system. There is also a huge distinction when talking about websites between 'advertising' and classifieds.

It took me 5 minutes to find the location of every topic on the first page of the UK equipment section, as long as they provided a location.

Yep, but as you know. Most people don't! That's the point being made. By dividing in to location you force people to list geographicaly hence postcode, county being required data on classifieds sites.

Anyway, enough from me, I can have good chat and advice here and do my shopping somewhere else.
