after my last water change (100% for 1g), my female betta has been clamping her fins. i really don't know whether it is the water change or that i switched up the bettas location. she was right beside my oldest boy and youngest girl. now she is beside my youngest boy only. she's still very responsive and alert. does anyone know what's wrong?

are you starting to cycle again? Your betta is probably just getting used to the new water.
I wouldnt recommend cycling a tank with a betta in it, they are quite sensitive.

Since it was a 100% wc,I would assume that is the way bettacrazy keeps her fish :)

bc~ maybe it is the change in location, try moving her back and see what happens.

Bettas are hardy fish but sensitive like any living organism..........

well.. i know my young boy loves her... maybe she doesn't like him?? he's a bit aggressive.. whereas my old boy is more relaxed. do you think that's the problem?

thanks for all your good suggestions!!!

OK here's the scoop.. i did a 100% WC today again. she's now back into her original location with my big boy beside her! she still has clamped fins!!! PLEASE HELP TO SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS MYSTERY!!!

I do bi-weekly 50% water changes with my bettas. I only do a 100% if there's something really wrong with the water.

i changed the water last friday and today... so between then and now, it has been four days. i just thought that it might be the water and that's why i changed it today. she was never like this before. this is the first time that i've seen her clamp her fins after a wc. she's still pretty active, but i did notice that she's just a tad bid slower today after the wc. i really love her  and don't want anything to happen to her. this is driving me crazy... and of course worried... :-(

My two orange CT's have clamped fins (if clamped fins means they are bent forwards). My male has both, and my female has one. I tried everything, but they are still like that... :dunno:

the picture on the left is molly normally with her fins all fanned out... below is a picture of her all clamped up! yap... she's still clamping!! -_- any ideas?

Can you tell me if she is eating normal, and when was the last time she pooped. I've had bettas do that when they are constipated or sick. Anything else you can add would help us figure out more about the problem. Hope things get on the up and up.

she's still eating ferociously like there is no tomorrow. her tank is littered light with poop (usual amount as compared to last week's amoutn before water change). i've noticed that she's less active.. always at the bottom or the top. however, when i come around, she perks up and start swimming around looking for food.

it was just really weird how suddenly she had clamped fins. before the wc, she was all fanned out like the pic on the left. after that wc last week, she suddenly clamped her fins. i didn't quite understand the sudden onset. she's been with me for at least may of this year. i know that if you get a new betta, they usually have clamped fins while they adjust. she never did that. she was always very aggressive and showing off her pretty fins. :(

sigh....

Clamped fins are usually the first sign of an illness, add some aquarium salt or other mild treatment (if you don't have cories plecos etc) and see what happens :)

i've added the medicinal dose of aquarium salt to her bowl already. her activity level still seems to be lower than when she was normally. i just hope that nothing serious is going on.... she is my first girl betta!!! :-( i would hate losing her!!!!!
