Ckutz'S First Planted Tank

ugh..today's a bad day in the fish tank..got back from class and one of the bumblebee goby's is dead...i've really gotta find a way to get them food..idk if that's why he died..i'm just aware that can be a problem.

also i see a khuli loach with a few specs of ick. definitely gonna pick up some quick cure tomorrow...

thanks for the input lorax chick, i see what you mean. when i got the wisteria it was sorta like that..so i just assumed that's how it was..like bare on the stem then leafy at top. maybe i could replant the part below the leaves, and leave the rooted part in, and clip the stem again above the rooted part..cause most plants have leaves starting at the base..so i could just get rid of the middle section. i just read they shouldn't be planted too close together cause of the amount of roots they grow, how far apart should they be?

ah, i really wish i could figure out how i'd like to have this thing set up...does it generally look better when you have your plants grouped together? like..the wisteria in one spot, the mint charlie in one spot...maybe i should say section, not necessarily spot.

The pieces of wood you have are great! I suggest you put plants of the same species together, to form groups so to say. Do I see correctly that you planted the anubias in the substrate? If so, it would be better to tie them to the wood. These are rhizome plants and if the rhizome is under the substrate, it will rot and die.

Keep it up! And yes, try to get an ick cure quickly.

Thanks for the input Biulu.

It took me quite a bit of digging around at the lfs till i found some i liked.. i thought they were pretty cool too. i've moved the piece on the left back more to the corner, and moved the sword back there as well. the tank looks much bigger now.

yea i thought that is probably what you're supposed to do in general..mine are kinda just strewn about..i'm ok with it for now though as i'm just trying to get them all growing well..once i see how they look in the tank, i'll figure out where to put them, but some are struggling sorta, so i just have them in the front where they'll get the most light.

you're right about the anubias. i did understand that the rhizome shouldn't be under the stubstrate, and i think i've managed not to do that..the reason i didn't tie it to anything is because i'm not sure how i want things to be laid out. so i din't want it to grow to the wood or something..i guess you can alway detach it though? does it pick up nutrients better if it's roots are exposed? it's seemed to be growing, but very slowly...i'm excited about the nana barterii (the smallest one) and i really hope it catches on well.

and loraxchick, i've begun the experiment with the wisteria. i planted one side with the roots and few leaves, and i planted the top of the other side..no real sign yet as to how it's doing though.

idk if it's noticeable, but i'm really curious about this crypt the guy gave me that he said is unknown. in post 10, it's beside the anubias on the right side with the leaves on it as he gave it to me..in post 14 it's in the same spot, beside the anubias..but the leaves all melted away leaving just that one left..and one stem that was on it has continued to grow and is starting to turn into a leaf. it's taking quite awhile to show signs of how its doing.

oh and about the ick..i did pick up quickcure..but i read something about it stunting the plants growth for months..that worried me a lot as many of mine are just starting to grow in their new environment..so i've held off..today there was very little noticeable ick, i upped the temp to 89 degrees the other day. i'm relying on the cleanliness of my water, and the health of my fish to resist the ick, and the high temp to make it die faster..idk if it'll work...the one loach had several spots and i was worried, but barely any today..if it starts up again i will probaby hit it with the quick cure.

i've decided to get excel. the plants aren't growing very fast, especially wisteria. it gets new leaves but the old ones just die off.

i'm hoping it won't harm the subwassertang at all..i really like that stuff, and my shrimp really need the cover.

I think i'm gonna try a rescape soon...i think from an artistic perspective mine is not up to par at all haha.

the big crypt is doing really well i think..the leaves it came with are kinda ugly but it's popped up 3 or 4 new ones.

Suprisingly, that mint charlie plant..the one no one knew if it was aquatic or not..it seems to be growing the best of all my plants.
