Circulation Help For Mbuna Tank

I need some help with this, In lake Malawi what would the water flow be like ?
I have got 200L tank and im using 2 filters, one of the returns I use to get water surface agitation, and the other is directed down towards the sand I also have a Hydor Koralia circulation/wave pump with pumps out 900 L/h. My issue is, the fish waste is collecting on the sand, I read if you have good flow and circulation around the sand it does not have time to settle and will end up getting sucked up the filter.

I am concidering upgrading my circulation.wave maker to a more powerful one, or maybe a dual one but I dont want to over do it and harm my fish.


I am stocking Saulosi 10x (4 more being added tuesday) they are only small at the moment.



Any info about the lake itself would be great, or any help with my flow would be great!

You could up the power of your wave makers/power heads as mbuna do love the flow, in the lake some species stay near the shores where waves thrash against the rocks. As long as the flow doesn't blow your fish around (OTT) then they will be fine. They can soon dive into the rocks to get out of the way

Been looking on and off all day online at different ones, I need one that I can direct the flow.

The second one is a lot more expencive and seems to be more for marine, but I like how you can control it.

£99 does look good but £99 seem's a lot for what they are. Entirely up to you mate but the extra power will fine with your fish

Yea the price tag is putting me off for sure! i'll probably get the one off ebay.

i use a koralia 4000l/h powerhead in my 4ft tank, and at the other end of the tank with the juwel internal it has a 1000l/h powerhead giving me a anti- clockwise current of water.

you will always have a dead spot in the tank were the waste collects just have to syphon it out

Beautiful pictures of the lake ! I have ordered the dual 6000 L/H so I will see how that works, Also I have ordered a eheim vac pro which will help clean the sand.
