Ok, So I have a 110L tank think about 30 Gallons for the US. At the moment its home to.

5 Guppy’s
2 Male, 3 female

1 Bristle nose catfish
1 Bi coloured catfish
1 Cuckoo catfish
1 Not sure think it’s a common Pleco (will be re-homed)

As of today 15 April 2010 I will be adding 6-8 Cardinal Tetras.

So that’s my setup so far.

Cichlids are something that I am interested in but have always been under the impression that they should be kept in a Species Tank, Until I came across this website http:(//www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/cich-dwf.htm) it states that most Dwarf Cichlids are ok to have in community tank as they are peaceful but will become aggressive when spawning. Can anybody give some advice on whether I should get some Cichlids or Just the 1 and how aggressive are these little things as I don’t want them killing my other fish.

All your help will be appreciated. FISH ‘ N ‘ CHIPS

hi you can add some dwarfs like red breasted acara or keyhole cichlids which are slightly less agressive if your wanting to add apistogramma your better off adding just a male on his own if you dont want the agression of breeding

apistogramma agassizi
you could keep apisto but with your other 3 bottom dwelling fish your tank wont be big enough as these get terratorial

IMO with that stocking I just wouldn't go the cichlid route at all, there is already a fair amount in there and adding a cichlid could really upset things... temperament wise they are an unknown until they settle and mature a little. Some cichlids can be expected to generally be better behaved than others but the margins of behaviour can be large...my male firemouth went from peaceful to uber-aggressive to timid over the course of a few months, he along with all the other tank mates will be getting a bigger tank this weekend so I hope to see more natural behaviour soon

A friend of mine (Saffyfish on here, not posted much) had started out with a variety of fish like you but once she got one cichlid it upset the balance a little (gourami trouble in this case) and then she got hooked on cichlids after that anyway...she's now rehomed/moved nearly all the non-cichlid fish she had bar the cories, a bristlenose and a few black neons (she has her cichlids in a trigon 190)

hi i have a community tank and along with guppies, dwarf gourami's, dwarf angels and zebra danios i have 2 cichlids x1 german blue ram and x1 electric blue ram and both are stunning fish.

the german blue bothers no one and keeps himself to himself. the electric blue occasionally darts at other fish and will harras new tank mates for the first hour or so after being added but outside of that i have had no problems what so ever.

both of these are dwarf species and ive been told will reach 5-7cm but at the moment all is good, if you want cichlids i would reccomend these :good:
