hi i have just set up a new tank and was woundering whether i could keep cichlids with normal community fish

Whats the tank size, which cichlids in particular and what community fish were you thinking about?

More than likely, depending on the "community" fish you have, you could keep some rams, or apistogramma. But, you won't be able to keep either of these with Cherry Shrimp.

the tank is 100l and my community fish are 5x platy 4x penguin tetra 4x zebra danio 4x pentazona barbs 1x cory but i can move the cory if need be

You will deffinately need more corys. I have read some issues of apistogramma/rams with corys, but only in breeding in a small tank. If you only want 1 of the cichlids, then the corys will be fine. But none the less, you need more corys.

right ok but i will move him into a tank with more cory then but a couple of rams with my setup would be fine then thanks

yes, providing they're bolivan (mikrogeophagus altispinosus) and NOT Blue (mikrogeophagus ramirezi).

Apistogramma are good little dwarf SA cichlids that would work too.
