I was wondering how compatible these fish would be together in a big tank. any tip will be apperciated with these guys. would these guys get along with my asian red tail catfish?

Thanks in Advance!!!

the four fish listed (oscar, texas, jaguar, red devil) can get along in a proper sized tank. So it all comes down to size. I wouldn't expect them to stay together from baby into adulthood. They grow at different rates (See, size DOES matter). But... if you have enough space for them so that they aren't killing each other off for reasons of territorial battles, over crowdedness or die of pure stress... they should do fine. Chances are the Oscar is gonna just get darn big and swim in open water where the others (although Ive never had a Jag) will max out smaller and pick a cave to call home and only fight what comes near its home. So pleanty of hinding places in a big ol tank and you'll have happy fish.

Well, I have an even more lethal combination in my 100g: Jag + FH + Oscar. Its not too bad now, but I have room once the FH shows it true colours. You can keep these guys as babies together, but the ARTC will definitely snack on them.

DB :fish:

As a favor to all of us new to the internet version of fish tank keeping... try to spell things out once in a while... what the heck is ARTC? and I've seen FH before... but didn't ask... what is that one again?

I figured out LFS out all on my own though... Local Fish Store... (damn I hope I'm right...)

thanks nutcase .. ive been searching the net for explanations didnt want to post and look stupid .. luckily someone did it for me .. lol

the oscar and texas are in a separate tank and the red devil and the jaguar are in another. so im still thinking of a good size tank to get so i can house all of them in the same tank. how big of a tank would u guys recommend to get for all 4 fish.

also, would ne one of u know if mine asian red tail catfish go fine with these guys??

no less than a 240 gallon (96" x 24" x 25") and that will be pushing it. the thing is once they get bigger jags are hyper territorial. I had one completely take over the 125 it was in and it wouldn't let any other fish (including the midas that had previously been ruler of the tank) out of a little corner of the tank. in an 8 foot long tank hopefully the jag and devil would have enough room to stay out of one another's way. then you gotta hope the texas and oscar don't get nailed from both sides. some dithers (silver dollars or tinfoils) may help. :)

where would one get a 240gallon tank or bigger at???
i ask this because the biggest i've seen so far at lfs are 180gallons which are hard to come by :( .

most good lfs can special order larger tanks. many don't keep them onhand cause they just don't sell very many and the tanks take up a lot of space.

where are you located by the way? if you're in the US you may be able to go through www.glasscages.com. they have awesome prices but the catch is to find a time when they're coming through your city or a neighboring city so you can pick the tank up off of their truck. otherwise you're looking at well over $200 for shipping. :)

thanks alot for the website Jason. those are some nice tanks :D . especially that 810gallon one. how many full grown cichlids would you say a tank like that can hold while still maintain peace in the tank.

thanks again very much Jason!!!

Those massive tanks are beautiful, yet may require a small mortgage. If you have it like that awesome, invite me over for dinner once it's set up, I wanna see too!

Personally, my obsessive nature is pushing me into larger tanks, so I'm siding with indoor ponds. Currently building a 550 Gal pond and at the same time drooling over a 6.5' x 10' @ 2.5' deep (almost 1200 US Gal) kiddy pool that will also fit in my basement.

Also I believe the fish will be happier in a pond like environment as opposed to a 24" thick aquarium. I think that, but no fish has ever really worded it like that to me, so there's room for error.

It's also worth noting that medium - large indoor ponds can be made to be astatically pleasing. My 550 will double as a coffee table (6'x6' @ 2.5" deep). If your not the handiest craftsman on earth but want one, I'm sure you could design it and hire a handy man to come build it for you. Mine will have about 6 hours of actual labor involved (although it is taking 3 2 hour sessions due to wood glue drying time)

Anyway, just throwing out options. Options are good to have!
