i was thinking about getting a cichlid tank but I am not sure of the requirements that must be met. What would be a good size tank to keep 5, 6 or 7 cichlids? :S

What kind of cichlids do you want?

Your going to want to get the biggest tank you can afford/house regardless.

i was looking at the mbuna cichlids and could probaly spend around 200 dollars for the setup

I would say no smaller than 30 gallons, and make sure that there are plenty of coral pieces for territorail purposes.

I've never kept mbuna, but I would get at least a 55g.

Read the pinned article about mbuna at the top of this page by cichlidaddict, it is a great article, and I would consider it "bible" for setting up a mbuna tank.

you should be looking at at a four foot tank...or bigger. a 3 foot would be bae minimum and not really recommended but it can be done.

I'm planning on starting a Cichlid tank with approximately the same number of fish as well and I'll probably go with a 55 gallon tank. The more room the better. Just make sure you have good filtration.
