cichlid tank...

I want to start a small( around 20 gallons ) cichlid tank, but am not sure what type of cichlids can be kept in a smaller tank. I like most African cichlids and Jewel cichlids. I was wondering if I could keep a couple in a 20 gallon long, if so, how many, if not, I'll keep looking for the tanks future inhabitants

You could keep some shell dwellers from Tanganyika in a 20. They are nice fish.

If you are looking for a community of fish for your tank then you are out of luck with African cichlids. If you are looking to have just two or three fish in the tank then there are a few rock dwelling species from Tanganyika that would work fine in that tank. A couple of the more peaceful mbuna from lake malawi would work too, like Labidochromis Caeruleus, but not to many.

You might also want to put in a pair of German Blue Rams OR a pair of Kribensis, though I regard a 20 gallon as the smallest size for Kribensis.
